The Catechist Guide highlights Catholic Social Teaching principles addressed in each unit. |
Our Catholic faith moves us to a concern for others and a commitment to social justice. Finding God: Our Response to God's Gifts calls each of us to participate as people for others. Our faith is shared in our commitment to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
In 1998 the United States Catholic bishops released the document Sharing Catholic Social Teaching: Challenges and Directions, which outlined seven areas of Catholic Social Teaching to be addressed in religious education programs. Finding God supports and promotes these seven principles throughout its sessions.
1. Life and Dignity of the Human Person
2. Call to Family, Community, and Participation
3. Rights and Responsibilities
4. Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
5. The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
6. Solidarity
7. Care for God's Creation
In Finding God: Our Response to God's Gifts these seven concepts of Catholic Social Teaching are integrated into the sessions. The Catechist Preparation pages tell which of these principles are addressed in a particular session. Special icons in the catechist's wrap-around text highlight for the catechist exactly where in the session a teaching is being shared with the children. In this seamless manner, the children discover how what they have learned about God's love for them is expressed through acting in a socially responsible way toward others.
